Improve productivity and data quality by facilitating the part replacement process by combining Bill of Materials information from Teamcenter with inventory information from an ERP.
Most companies use a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, such as Siemens Teamcenter, to keep track of the components used in the production of their machines. Many components have to be replaced during the lifecycle of these machines. If the original component breakdown structure, commonly referred to as the ‘as maintained Bill Of Materials’, is not kept up-to-date, it is impossible to know the exact build up of these machines a few years down the road. This will make predicting and performing maintenance a cumbersome job.
Keep your systems up-to-date
Similarly, it is key to have an up-to-date inventory in an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, such as SAP, MS Dynamics NAV or Oracle ERP, in order to know if all components needed for a scheduled maintenance job are actually available. Keeping complex systems such as Teamcenter and SAP up-to-date is considered to be a burden for field service engineers. Engineers want to focus on their task of keeping the physical assets operational and have minimal administrative tasks. These manual tasks are also error prone and time consuming.
With Mendix on top of Siemens Teamcenter and SAP, information from both core systems of record becomes available in a modern app platform. TimeSeries has built an integrated application which can be used by the field service engineer to administer the replacement of parts in the physical machine. With one push of a button, the SAP inventory levels are updated and the Bill of Materials is updated in Siemens Teamcenter. As a result, the entire workflow process is executed 10 times faster and much less error prone. The app is able to show 3D visualizations of parts and is available offline on tablets and any other mobile device.
Siemens GP field service engineers are responsible for maintaining physical assets, such as windmills, for which they regularly need to replace parts. By placing Mendix on top of Siemens Teamcenter and SAP we make information from both Siemens Teamcenter and SAP available in a modern app platform.
