Keep your “as maintained Bill of Materials” and spare parts inventory up-to-date!
Most companies use a PLM system, such as Siemens Teamcenter, to keep track of the components used in their physical assets such as windmills or solar panels. Many components have to be replaced during the lifecycle of these assets. If the original component breakdown structure, commonly referred to as the “as maintained Bill Of Materials”, is not kept up-to-date, it is impossible to know the exact build up of these assets a few years down the road. This will make predicting and performing maintenance a cumbersome job.
Similarly, it is key to have an up-to-date inventory in an ERP system, such as SAP, in order to know if all components needed for a scheduled maintenance job are available. Keeping complex systems such as Teamcenter and SAP up-to-date is considered to be a burden for field service engineers. They want to be able to focus on their task of keeping the physical assets operational.
By placing Mendix on top of Siemens Teamcenter and SAP, we make information from both core systems of records available in a modern app platform. We have built an integrated application which can be used by the field service engineer to administer the replacement of parts in the physical machine. With one push of a button the SAP inventory levels are updated and the bill of materials is updated in Siemens Teamcenter. The app can even be used offline and is able to show 3D visualizations.
